Large aluminum tray manufacturer: San Lorenzo, Italy designer: Afra and Tobia Scarpa design year: 1992 notes: San Lorenzo, best known for their spectacular silver work, brought these beautiful trays and bowls into production in 1992. The designers created worked with a remarkably complex manufacturing process: the aluminum form is first anodized, resulting in a deep porous oxide layer. The form is then immersed in a solution containing the pigments, impregnating the color into the pores of the oxidized surface. Having received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, Knobel went on to receive her Master of Fine Arts degree from The Royal College of Art, London. The recipient of numerous awards, including the Alix de Rothschild Foundation Prize for Jewelry Design (Israel, 1986) and the Andrea Bronfman Prize for the Arts (Israel, 2007), the artist's work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, among others. Ms. Knobel currently lives and works in Jerusalem.
