notes:
San Lorenzo, best known for their spectacular silver work, brought these beautiful trays and bowls into production in 1992. The designers created worked with a remarkably complex manufacturing process: the aluminum form is first anodized, resulting in a deep porous oxide layer. The form is then immersed in a solution containing the pigments, impregnating the color into the pores of the oxidized surface. The surface is then sealed with glass.

These slingshots, handmade by Christopher Jarratt, were painted in 5 different distinct colors chosen exclusively for Moss: Aqua Blue, Fire Engine Red, Sunny Yellow, Battleship Grey, and Army Green. Each slingshot is made from a found forked tree branch collected in one of the last great forests of England: Epping Forest. Each slingshot is unique.

Born in Poland in 1949, Ms. Knobel emigrated with her family to Israel in 1950. Having received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem, Knobel went on to receive her Master of Fine Arts degree from The Royal College of Art, London. The recipient of numerous awards, including the Alix de Rothschild Foundation Prize for Jewelry Design (Israel, 1986) and the Andrea Bronfman Prize for the Arts (Israel, 2007), the artist's work is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, among others. Ms. Knobel currently lives and works in Jerusalem. Knobel's work has been shown internationally in numerous solo, joint, and group exhibitions, and received much acclaim due to its content, use of materials, and processes, which have always been highly idiosyncratic.

Provenance: Delorenzo Gallery, New York A private collection of French mid-Century Design Private collection of Murray Moss and Franklin Getchell French artist Jean Besnard is considered one of the most important Art Deco ceramists. The son of the painter Albert Besnard and sculptor Charlotte Aubray, he was influenced by tribal and folk arts and developed specific glazing techniques and incised his works to mimick and conjure lace fabrics, leather, wood and basket-weave. Through the use of simple forms and a combination of geometric, linear and abstract decorations, he created works that led the way to the rustic modernism of mid-century French design.
