Moss Holiday: Part Nine

Moss Holiday, the end of the road

Does the phrase “last chance” mean anything to you? It’s almost too late, but you might just make it if you hurry. We’re here, waiting. Holiday stickers in hand.

First of the last: A spectacular scarf by UK artist Richard Woods, in his signature wood print. Very very cool for those who are familiar with Richard’s work, and for those who don’t, it’s a great introduction.

scarf: $345.

Second to last: How about a necklace from Dutch designer Frank Tjepkema. The Clockwork Love collection consists of paper-thin layers of gold-plated steel representing the inner workings of a clock fused with symbolic references to “heart moods”. His earlier piece, Bling Bling, uses the same technique but its imagery is entirely famous logos. This is serious, complex, provocative jewelry. We have both.

Clockwork Love: $980.
Bling Bling: $850.

And finally, dead last, something in which to carry home the loot. A Tyvek bag. You gotta love Tyvek. It’s not paper. It’s not fabric. It’s not film. It’s better than all three! And it comes in one color—cadaver grey.

Papier Tyvek bag: $195

Moss Holiday: Part Eight

Fishbowls and behavior changing tumblers

The Austrian glassmaker, Lobmeyr, makes the world’s most perfect crystal. Look at these Fishbowls, for instance. How gorgeous are they? And you do realize, I hope, that it’s not actually necessary to put a fish in these wonderful bowls. They’re really vases. Of course, any reasonable fish would be very happy in such a bowl. We’re just saying.

And as for water tumblers, nothing anywhere is more beautiful and delicate and behavior changing than these Alpha tumblers. By behavior changing, we mean that since they are made of very very thin glass, you quickly learn that you must be much more conscious than usual of how you handle them. Your behavior with glasses changes. You change. You become a better person, just by owning one of these tumblers. It’s true.

Fishbowl vase: large $385, medium $255, small $145
Alpha water tumblers in blue, green, grey, yellow or amethyst, set of two $150.

Moss Holiday: Part Six

A-Fold iPad holder

This is probably the most overtly practical item Moss has ever offered. Even our salt shakers have more romance than the A-Fold. The ironing board had a longer narrative. Remember that one? But life moves on and we must make our adjustments to technology and sometimes you find yourself in the grip of a functional need situation. Your iPad may have become of your life but it doesn’t stand up by itself, now, does it? Enter A-Fold. Designed by the great Carl Magnusson, this is a simple and obvious and perfect little machine. Four fixed angles of viewing, and it folds flat. Use it at your desk or on a plane, landscape or portrait. Keep the iPad plugged in while you use it, or not. Exclusively at Moss.

Price: $65
